I have been married to 4 different men.
In the beginning, I fell in love with a smoking, bad boy sporting a #23 jersey.
Then, I fell in love all over again to a doting father. In his 20s, realizing that he was now a family man, he made the decision to drop his smoking habit for the sake of his health and his family.
In our 30s, I realized I had married an ambitious restauranteur who would blaze a trail in the local food landscape. Along the way, he became a full-fledged entrepreneur and real estate developer. During this time in our marriage, we rarely saw each other.
Now that I'm 44, I have found that I've married an avid outdoorsman-hunter and fisherman.
That means I have fallen in love with 4 different versions of the same man. After 26 years, I can confidently say Kang is still my soulmate.
I share this to offer hope to those who may be suffering from indifferences or marital strife. There is light at the end of tunnel. We must keep trying and develop grit in our relationships. The perfect marriage doesn't exist. We all fail and get frustrated. And there are times when we 'just don't wanna'. I would be lying if I didn't feel despair and loneliness sometimes.
Despite all of that, I wouldn’t trade the journey I've had with this guy for the world.
Because love is the journey. The fun times. The hard times. Times of joy and times of sorrow. That is how love grows and deepens. But only if you have the courage to keep going.
